Utz, manager of Horseshoe Farnj near Rapidan, is finishing laying 1475 feet of tile to eliminate swampy areas on level cropland along the Rapidan River. Many farmers are taking advantage of the financial assistance given by the Production Marketing Administration this year in farm drainage. An allowance of 12c per cu. yd. of dirt moved from open ditches, 10c per linear ft. on 4 and 5 in. tile and 15c per linear ft. on 6 in. and above is made on all work that is carried out according to specifications.

N. K.G. Tholand, owner of Piedmont Farm in F. T. Valley, has added over 200 acres to his farm, making a total of approximately 900 acres, assisted by Soil Conservation Service Technicians, Mr. Tholand has revised his complete farm plan to include the additional land and to balance hay and pasture. Piedmont Farm is operated as a beef cattle unit, growing only small grain, hay and pasture. In this scheme much of the hay is utilized as grass and legume on silage, thus making a minimum amount of hay, which Mr. Tholand considers is much cheaper.
