Every decent citizen of the county feels humble and apologetic over the case oi the flagrant" destruction of other people’s property exhibited in the county seat during the Commencement exercises, June 4.
A friend from an adjoining county anas invited by one of the graduates to attend the graduating exercises. While the guest was attending the program in the county high school, two tires of her automobile received knife cuts.
We all know the lady realizes that the act was one of a person unfit for society, but we feel ashamed, nevertheless, because it happened in our county.
Nothing can be done now. What’s happened has happened, but our embarrassment is sufficient to try to .prevent its recurrenence.
Can it be that we have placed our beads in a hole in the ground, and like the ostrich, refuse to admit that such a thing could happen? It has. If protection for respectable people is necessary, then ■we must have it.
There are only two law enforcement officers in the county, the Sheriff and the State Trooper, and each one has the entire county to cover. They can’t be everywhere at once. Perhaps it is time that we realize that special police protection is needed at special times.
This embarrassing piece of ^illbehavior occurred1 in Washington, so the town will havt to take the blame. It was a meeting at the county high school, so the entire
