The Conservative Choice
It’s getting close enough to July 15 for all the voters to be reminding themselves of their vots .ing duty. That’s the day of the State Democratic primary, when the people of the Old Dominion will choose their Senator.
Down in the south and southwestern part of the State Mr. Francis Pickens Miller is making a loud and long campaign against ““Senator Byrd. Mr. Miller has even gone so far as to state that “On every one of the great issues which have confronted him during his administration, the President (Truman) has made the right decision.” The Winchester Evening Star answered that one with the following:
“Consider that statement again: EVERY major decision of Truman’s has been right, in the opin—ion of Mr. F. P. Miller. Frankly, we doubt that even Harr£ Vaughan would go so far as to say that everything Mr. Truman has done has been right. It would seem that Mr. Miller, in his admiration for Mr. Truman, is even out-Vaughaning General Vaughan.”_
Senator Byrd stands firmly for a policy of honesty and economical government. His record shows it plainly.
The opposition of Mr. Miller seems to sum up to be that of the untried politician who aspires to sit in a Senate seat graced for many years by conservative, clearthinking, leve 1-headed business men.
The faith of the people in Byrd rests in their knowledge of him. ' He has made a success of his own business and that qualifies him to handle our business in the government. He has worked and he has respect for work and the money that comes from work. He has respect and understanding for the independent man who is trying to make a living in this world; and Byrd holds no part with socialism and socialistic schemes.
