Less than one year later he returned to his Alma Mater, on May 23, 1905, to marry Andrea Martin, daughter of Dr. ^Andrew B. Martin, one of his Law Professors.

After having engaged in private practice for more than twenty five years in McDowell and Mingo counties, he served as City Attorney for Welch from 1930 through 1932. He was Assistant Attorney General and Acting Attorney General of West— Virginia, from 1933 to 1943. fie became Attorney General of the State of West Virginia in 1945, his term expiring m 1903, which office he resigned to accept the
