THE DRUGGIST IS REQUIRED TO KNOW

HYPNOTICS

Hypnotics, employed to' induce sleep, depress the system and provide relief from the sensation of pain. They \ do not cure—they dull feeling. Therefore they are habit-forming. If they are used habitually, the system becomes conditioned to them, so that greater quantities are required each time to produce the desired effect. A point is reached at which they induce fatal coma rather than restorative sleep. It is the responsibility of the druggist to recognize hypnotics in pain-relieving compounds and to sell them only on a physician's prescription. '
