Putting it another way five thousand 100acre farms are washed away each year due to failure to recognize the needs for conservation. And there is little new land left that can be brought into cultivation. One of the last remaining “new” land frontiers lies in the coastal plain of iNorth Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. This land can be reclaimed only -by drainage.

Another important fact — experts tell us that 2 acres of land are required to feed, clothe, and maintain every man, woman and child in the United States. We are now close to 2 acres per individual in the U. sS., based on our present population. But our papulation is growing rapidly and within the next 20 years it is expected to reach 170-million. This means less and less land to feed more and more people. Conservation of soil and water to maintain and improve its productiveness is imperative now if iwe are to maintain our present standard of living. .; ■
