The Woman Council needs to be congratulated for their victory in the election. Let us hope their ad- * ministration will be very successful. The council should be commended for the efforts they have put forth in trying to improve the town physically and materially. It is also said that the town !b better off financially than it has ever been.
However, there are a few things that remain to be said. All of us will admit that politics is politics. There is one thing to remember about politics—namely— that the balancing power in our government has been brought about and preserved because of the opposition in political parties. Take a look at Jhe countries be-, hind the "iron Curtain”' because of the One-Party-System. They put up their candidates, picture the good things they have done and dare you not to vote for them.
A candidate on the losing side was contacted in the early morning before election by a citizen on the Woman’s Party. His friendship was. challenged. As a result he gave up his political freedom for friendship in order to elect the women.
A relative of one of the members of the council seems to think that grudges will be held until the next election because of the way certain ones voted. If there are any grudges, they were there before election. A man who was brave enough to oppose the women as candidates certainly would not hold, a grudge against anyone who did1 riot vote for him.
It would he very unfortunate if politics should get on that level in a small community like this one.
Good sportsmanship is being able to take either victory or defeated graciously and impartially. The winning party is not being very gracious when they resort to “smear tactics.” Its about time some of them were taking an inventory of them
