As part of their insurance protection, at least 3 million self-employed persons soon will be able to point with confidence to Federal old-age and survivors.
This statement was made today by Miss Henrietta Mode, Field Representative of the Alexandria social security office. Miss Mode said that these individuals have full credit for their self-employment earnings after 1950 and so gre fully insured for future payments as soon as they file their final 1952 income tax returns. To stay insured, they must continue to report their earnings and pay the social ecurity tax once every year.
Among beneficiaries of social security now coming on the rolls, the average retirement payment to a man without dependents is $65 a month for an aged couple the average is about $103 a month, and to a widow with two children, in the neighborhood of $130 a month.
Miss Mode urged all self-employed to keep accurate records and to be sure that the correct social security number and occupation are shown on C-a as submitted. This Schedule C-a the tax reti\m and attached Schedule should be attached to all income tax returns showing net profit from selfemployment of at least $400 in a year.
Miss Mode also pointed out that since social security credits are based on accurate tax returns, it is greatly to the self-employed person’s own interest that the return be entirely correct.

Thus, if the matter of industrial relations is to be approached intelligently, full consideration must be directed to labor as the total occupational group, not merely to their organized minority. One would have to be naive indeed to assume that the activities of the organized few do not affect—and sometimes even injure—the unorganized many. And one would have to be less blessed with a sense of fair play than most of us „ are to assume that justice consists of stacking the cards in favor of the minority, simply because they have the loudest spokesman. To be guided by either false assumption is Unworthy of the very least of us who are proud to call ourselves Americans.
