S.V.F.D. Halts Blaze
At Atkins Home
A fire of undetermined origin swept through the home of W. C. Atkins in Sperryville, Thursday night causing extensive smoke and heat damage. The fire starting in the kitchen, burned through the walls, into the dining room nearby and into the bedroom above.
The Sperryville Volunteer Fire Company was alerted when a citizen saw the smoke billowing through a window. They rushed to the scene and soon had the fire under control. The Washington and Culpeper Companies attended the fire, but before their arrival, the Sperryville company had conquered the flames. Mr. Atkins and his sister, who were watching television at the time of the alert, were not aware of the fire until it had gained some headway. Although there was considerable “damage throughout the 8-room house the Atkinses are able to make their home there while repairs are under way.
