BOY SCOUT MOVEMENT HAS VALUE TO NATION
The pressure of my Senate duties makes it difficult for me to accept many speaking engagements away from Washington, specially at this period of the year when our Appropriations Committee is- handling the big money bills. But two invitations I could not resist were those to adRobert E. Lee Area Boy Scout dress meetings sponsored by the Council in Richmond last month and 'by the Stonewall Jackson Area Boy Scout Council in Staunton this week.
Since the Boy Scout movement was not organized in the United States until after I had graduated from college I 1iad no opportunity to engage' in formal scouting as .a boy but 41 had an early introduction to hunting and fishing and in connection with those recreations enjoyed many ! of the wholesome outdoor experences jr which are part of the Boy Scout program today.
