Bad roads, augmented by win—ter snows, encouraged 47 members to leave the mother church and found the Flint Hill Baptist Church. Likewise the Washington Baptist Church had its beginning.
As these and other children churches began to develop distinct personalities, the mother church’s membership dwindled. . Generations came and went in the young churches, with fewer and fewer returning to Mount Salem for renewal of allegiance. Youths grew to old age in the offspring churches making them complete families within themselves.
Now a century after its found—ing, Mount Salem, yet a strong stone structure, begins to show the results of “dis”, and “mis” use.' Thieves have plundered it, taking a step from an entrance, a chair from its pulpit, and the collection plates from its altar.
Of necessity some step must be taken. It is believed by a large number that there are now enough interested persons to revive the church. They moreover believe in , the need to reopen the church. -In order to best gather these persons and best measure the sentiment of the public, Revival Services will be conducted at Mount •Salem from Monday, July 19 through Sunday, July 25 (except Saturday) at 7:30. Following the week of services®a meeting will’be held and the decision on the operting, 'made. The. Rev. Joseph Graver of Elkwood will conduct the services, during the revival. He is also through personal visits taking a census of public opinion on this issue.
