The single women, piloted by Miss Betty Jean Settle, included in their ranks: Miss Julia Atkins, pitching, Miss Ann Lynn Atkins, . catching, and Misses Virgie Atkins, at first base, Shirley Atkins at second base, and Betty Johnson at third. Miss Margaret Devers controlled right field, Miss Eleanor Jenkins, center field and Miss Neville Wood, left field, with for short stop. Miss Betty Jean Set$e scheduled
Miss Settle* the first batter up, got a long hit, and over anxious to foot it to first base, turned too tjuickly (left handed) and twisted Jier side. She had to leave the game. Luckily the Washington Rescue Squad was on the scene, and for several innings she watched the game, from a stretcher behind the home screen. (Later she was taken to the doctor, as the pain did not subside.) Miss Alice Dodson took over the short stop position in *the absence of Miss Settle.
The women’s game proved a close tussel, with first one side then the other gathering advantage. The final score stood at 18-17 in favor of the Married Women. -—*—
