Landowners, Invest

Valuable Property

The timberland owners in this state are very fortunate. They own a resource that, under proper management, can be made to produce a perpetual income. Unlike many of^our other resources, such as coal and oil, our timber is living and growing and is able to replace itself.

The landowners whose timber has been clear-cut, or who have idle or abandoned land which is not being used are somewhat less fortunate. These people are paying taxes, and possibly interest, on land from which they are getting no return. However, this land can be put on a paying basis by planting forest trees seedlings on it. These seedlings are of great value as an investment. They will not only increase the value of the land, but they should also yield St least a 3% return on the investment. TJiis year the County A.S.C. Committee for Rappahannock County has- approved payment up to 80% of cost for the tree planting practice. This amount of payment will allow a landowner to set up a sizeable stake in his future for a very small cost. The A. S. C. can give you all the necessary information on i|s program. For information on seedlings and planting sites,, write to D. G. Wilfong, Jr., District Forester, Box 3347, University Station, Charlottesville, Va.
