Athletics Lose 10-6 In Opening Game; Show, Much PromiseOpening
their first season as an organized baseball team, the Amissville Athletics' met the Remington team Sunday afternoon and were defeated by a narrow 10-6 score, with good hard playing by both teams.
Remington scored early as they brought home 2 runs in die second 4 in the fifth and continued with 2 each in the sixth and seventh Amissville caught fire in the sixth and seventh when they marked up 2 runs, then 4. They failed to score in the last 2 innings.
According to the managers, Amissville played a good game of ball, even getting men oil scoring basfk in the early innings. The game did show, they continue, that the team needs a little polish in some positions. / Considering the stiff competition the team met, die Athletics’ performance shows “a lot of promise.” Jesse James was the starting and losing pitcher, hurling the first 5 innings. He allowed 6 runs, 5 hits artd 4 walks. Junior Martin then took over the mound for 2 innings, allowing 4 runs,. . 4 hits and 2 walks. Hartley was brought in at the 8th and, finished the game, walking only 1 man. Arthur was Remington’s winning pitcher, allowing when he was brought in for the last 5 innings, 6 runs, 3 hits, 6 #alks and 8 strikeouts. Graws pitched the first 4 innings. D. Martin and Grainum led the Athletics with 2 hits, each. Andes and Yancey had 2 hits for Remington.
The Amissville Athletics will meet the Opal team on die home diamond in Amissville this Sunday afternoon, May 1st.
