Council Cuts Budget

$200 From Surplus

Taxes will not be levied in Washington, was the decision of the Washington Town Council, in a special meeting Monday night with town treasurer R. L. Brown. Via cutting out of the tentative ■ budget certain . nonesserjtials and dipping into the $3000 surplus, carried on interest in the bank, the balance will be reached.

The tentative budget runs over the usual budget due jto the inclusion of several necessary itemsas the renewing of a 10-year lease for the dumping ground and election expenses. Several other items may be deemed necessary at a later date, such as the purchase of a new mower and oil heater. Therefore, a certa'n amount must be maintained in “miscellaneous.”

R. L. Brown, in answer to inquiry, stated that $767, had been raised bv a 30c on $100 levy the last year of taxep in Washington. A town license tag, selling for $2.50 had also be used to increase revenue. *
