' The Rappahannock Chiefs opened their season Sunday afternoon with a close 7*4 loss to the Gordonsville nine on the borne diamond. Jim Bill Coates led the local batsmen with 4 for 4, poundinf out a long homer which landed in the orchard back of left-center.

Junior Hawkins turned in a brilliant pitching performance, in spite of the loss chalked up. He struck oat three men in the first frame, and proceeded to send 7 more to the bench by way of the strike out routd. Ellis, pitching for Gordonsville, struck out 4 and walked four.
