1956 Polio. Report
The total number of cases of poliomyelitis throughout the nation in 1956 is 1140 through the week ended April 7th, 1956. In Virginia through April 7 there have been four cases of polio.
Nationwide over 50% of the cases have been paralytic polio. In
Virginia the four cases are divided, two paralytic and two non-paralytic polio. .
In years past polio in Virginia usually begins to increase in occurrence in May. “There is still time for children from the age one (1) through ten (10) to be given
poliomyelitis vaccine aimed at the
prevention of paralytic polio.
In Virginia only this age group is eligible to receive this preventive treatment.
