Visits Shen-Valley
Meat Packing Plant
Forty-eight of the bona-fide members of the Rappahannock F. F. A. Chapter visited the ShenValley Meat Packing Plant at Timbervillc, Virginia, Thursday, March 1st.
We were given a guided tour of the entire plant. The first stop was the bacon slicing and wrapping room. From there we were taken to the smoke room where we observed smoking and cooking of hot dogs and bologna. The next room was the potted meat room. Various other processing sections seen were the curing rooms tankage room, dried blood room, lard, aging and trimming rooms. The section that caught our interest most was the slaughtering room. It took approximately ten minutes from the time the live steer was ushered in until it was ready for the aging room. Thus ended a very interesting and profitable trip.
