attending the shearing school at Luray on May 2nd were: Glen, Randall, Francis and Lyle Updike; Ivory Atkins, Rodney Regan, David Lyne, Jack Sisk, and Dudley Grigsby. This was the “first time” for several of the Rappahannock boys and men to shear a sheep which naturally was a bit awkward in fact a man project leader from Page County was so facinated he had to try his hand. His remark upon finishing his sheep, “You know there is a lot more to that job than meets the eye.” Knowing the positions to hold the sheep while shearing is the trick that makes the job easy.
Assistant Agent, Rapley Owings took the Rappahannock and Madison Judging Teams to the University of Maryland last Saturday on a livestock judging trip.
Individuals judged and gave reasons for their placings in a class of Angus heifers, Yorkshire market hogs, Hampshire Gilts, Southdown Fat Lambs and Hampshire breeding ewes. The group left at 6 A. M. and returned 11. P. M. They judged livestock class-, es and heard the official placings until 3 P. M. and then took off for some fun at Glen Echo. Those from Rappahannock making the trip were: Eddie Sutphin, "Skinner”and Randolph Updike, Jimmy Yates, and “Biscuit” Sisk; those from Madison included Pete Lohr, Bobby Jenkins, James Henshaw
