EIGHT ACRES BURNED IN TWO FIRES RECENTLY
A total of 163 forest fires have already burned approximately 1,807*4 acres of timberland in the sixteen-county Northern Piedmont District since January 1, 1956, according to figures released by the Virginia Division of } Forestry. These figures, which represents fires and acreage burned in the first 3 Vis months of 1956, compare unfavorably with a total of 220 fires and 1,850 acres burned in the entire year of 1955.
For Rappahannock County, the records show a total of 2 fires thatburned approximately 8 acres of timberland in the last 3*4 months. Brush burning, from which fires escape, or unattended brush and trash fires are one of the greatest causes of forest fires thip year.
