For the past two years our Livestock Committee included in it’s
county goals, “lj)0% vaccination of all heifer calves against Brucellosis”. Frankly I thought this a goal impossible to reach_BUT looks like I was wrong.
The October issus of Livestock Health Bulletin lists Rappahannock as having an estimated 1470 heifer calves. By the end of October 1270 head, or $6.4%, had been calfhood vaccinated putting us in 4th place (percentagewise) of all Virginia counties; only Culpeper, Orange and Nottaway being ahead. With the 232 head scheduled for next week on 53 different farms Rappahannock will be a 100% county along with Orange. Actually we will know 1502 head have been vaccinated .against Brucellosis!
I’m proud of this the co-oper.ition of heifer owners, committeemen, and veterinarians is .wonderful. In fact, when we stop to consider Rappahannock has no vet...... I think we are' due more credit than a county having several vets available to do the job.
