Baby Beef Show And Sale
Thirty-three baby beeves were shown and soid last Thursday at Front Royal Livestock Market by 4-H members from Page, Warren and Rappahannock Counties. Richard Brubaker of Page fed and fitted the Grand Champion of all breeds, an Angus weighing 1010 pounds while the Reserve Champion went to a hereford weighing 940 pounds exhibited by David Schuler also of Page.
Rappahannock 4-H boys exhibiting were Walter B. Kilby, whose Shorthorn, which weighed 795 pounds, placed 2nd in its class; Ned Jones, Jr. and Mark Harris. Kilby won the senior division of the Fitting and Showing Contest.
Arden Huff, 4-H Livestock Specialist of V.P.I. was official judge. The sqle was disappointing. The Grand Champion was bought by Shen Valley Meat Packers, Inc. which also purchased three steers.
