Hempt probably bought more steers than any other firm or representative. Prices ranged from about 26c to 36%c, most going at 27 plus. Similar sales held just prior to this sale averaged 35c.

Chemical Residues Alarming
One Rappahannock milk producer was notified that his milk was unfit for human consumption because it contained 0.1 ppm chemical residue. The oddity about the finding is that two of the chemicals supposedly found had never been used on the farm. The third, Heptachlor Epoxide is a derivative of Heptachlor used (and approved) all over the eastern United States last year for controlling Alfalfa weevil.
He has been dumping his milk since April 12th,‘ which, based on cm rent values, has meant a loss of ?150 more or less.
