During the past year, foresters from the Northern Piedmont District’s sixteen counties, of which Rappahannock is a part, received requests from 690 landowners for assistance in forestry work on more than thirty-six thousand acres of land. These requests included examinations of timbered areas to determine the best method to obtain and maintain a productive growing condition so that regular cuts may be made at reasonable intervals. The examinations also included areas to be planted to forest tree seedlings, the marking of sawtimber, pulpwood and seed trees. Timber valued at over one-half million dollars was harvested under good forestry practices during the year ; just ended.
Landowners interested in carry! ing out better forest conservation on their timberlands may get assistance by contacting their local county agent, soil conservation seri vice technician or by contacting the Virginia Division of Forestry.
