Lyle, j by making second highest score ofj the 54 individuals competing will represent his county as a member of the State team! They will compete at the Atlantic Rural, Eastern National and National Livestock shows. Danny Mclntire of Clarke beat him by five points irk making a score of 552 out of a possible 600.
The State team is made up of the two high individuals from the winning team and the next two high individuals. Thus Virginia will be represented by Danny, Lyle, John Gano, also of Clarke, and Richard Coleman of Amelia.
Only two teams placed more , than one member in the top ten, Madison! and Rappahannock. Harrison Pdwers placed 8th (516), while the two from Madison,, Russell Tanner and Walter Carl Fisher, placed 7th and 9th respectively with scores of 519 and 515.
Eight ! classes of livestock Were judged in all; three in cattle, three in swine and two in sheep. Also there were breeding and market classes of each type of livestock. Oral reasons were given on four classes.

Glen Updike placed second in the State; Sheep Shearing Contest which was also held during State 4-H Short Course at Blacksburg. Again we were beaten by a narrow margin_Glen’s final score was 91.6 while Buddy Hudson of Pulaski had a 92.6. Billy Scaggs of Montgomery was but half point behind Glen. Henry Gibson of Charlotte was fourth (89.8) and Bobby Gene Newberry of Bland fifth. |
