Precise and highly technical instruments record the tests today, says Lyne, where the hmuan eye used to determine the tests. Photometers, flame photometers and automatic pH machines are common words around tthe Soil Testing Laboratory. In fact the V.P.I. Soil Testing Laboratory has the most modern soil testing equipment. The tests run cn the samples are pH, calcium, magnesium, organic matter, phosphate and potash.
Efficiency, safety and cleanliness are key words in the laboratory. All of these are necessary to give an accurate test and the service that is expected. A check sample is tested every day to test the accuracy of the machines and technicians.
After the tests are completed the result1} are recorded on the soil record sheet which came with the sample. This information is returned to the county agent or other agricultural worker who submitted the sample.
