Farmers Interested

In Soil Testing

Farmers are more interested than ever in soil testing, states W. H. Lyne, County Agent of Rappahannock County. He says that the soil test can be a valuable tool in determining the right amount and analysis of fertilizer and whether or not lime is needed.

What happens to the soil sample when it reaches the Soil Testing Laboratory in the Agronomy Department at V.P.I. is an interesting process, Lyne says. First the sample is carefully opened and a number recorded on both the sample and the soil record sheet. This number follows the sample through the laboratory to be sure that it is not misplaced.
