Academy Cadets

llic nationwide competitive examination for appointments as cadets in the United States Coast Guard Academy will be held Febmary 20 and 21, 1961, according to information given Rep. Burr P. Harrison by Coast Guard Headquarters.

Applications from high school graduates, or students who are now high school seniors, will be accepted until January 10, 1061, by the Commandant, U. S. Coast Guard, Washington .25, D. C An applicant must have reached his 17th but not his 22nd birthday by July t, 1961. He must be between 64 and 7N inches in height with weight in proportion, have normal color perception and at least 20/30 vision in each eve correctible to 20/20.

The Coast Guard Academy, located in New London, Connecticut, offers a four-year college course, leading to a Bachelor of

nee degree and a commission as Ensign in the U. S. Coast Guard. After graduation, officers may apply for flight training to qualify as Coast Guard aviators.

Mr. Harrison emphasized that there are no Congressional appointments to this Academy. All icadetere
