You Alfalfa producers, get this straight. Recommendations for Alfalfa weevil control sent you in August are recommendations and nothing more. Personnel with the Virginia Experiment Stations and or Extension Seijvice are not writers of, nor enforcers of, law. Our aim is to help you to help youself and in doing so, make ecommendations that will: (1) Not get you in trouble and (2) Help you control the problem, (in this case an insect). Whether you do or do not follow the recommendations is your business.
BUT REMEMBER. What most of us do, or do not do, affects some one else. You, nor 1, can live in this world and get along we must consider not only ourselves.. . but others as well.
AS A GROUP... Farmers are proud to produce quality food for mankind or quality feed for livestock, for consumpton as human food.
AS AN INDIVIDUAL such is a worthy goal.production of food and feed that is not only high in quality from the standpoint of nutritive value but free of contamination as well.
Established stands of Alfalfa should be treated with heptochlor fertilizer between now and October 15th.
You men who seeded Alfalfa in early August, before the new recommendations came out, and had applied fertilizer at seeding, should use granular heptachlor alone between now and October 15th.
While the recommendations sent you last month are based on limit-, ed research, it is the most dependable research now available. They should be followed for your own protection and in an effort to obtain the most satisfactory control of the Alfalfa weevil.
If clarification of methods, materials, etc. are needed, let me hear from vou well before October 15th. ATTENTION FEEDER CALF PRODUCERS.
