ASC Election
The election of the Community ASC Committee was held by mail ballot this year. The Tabulation Board, consisting of R. E. Wood, chairman, W. G. lEastham and Chester Wayland counted all eligible ballots on October 14, 1960.
The results by communities are as follows: Stonewall: Raymond Johnson, Chairman; Gordon Thornhill, Vice-chairman; H. B. Wood, Jr., Regular Merpber; G. Brown Miller, 1st Alternate; and Marvin Dodson 2nd Alternate.
Wakefield: John R- Moore, Chairman; Aubrey North, Vicechairman; Roland Welch, Regular Member; L. L. Voigt 1st Alternate ; Owen Sealock, 2nd Alternate.
Hampton: Wade H. Massie, III, Chairman; Virginia G. Miller, Vice-chairman; Alice R. Wood Regular Member; Thomas Lee, 1st Alternate; George Beahm, 2nd Alternate.
Piedmont: C. E. Johnson, Jr., Chairman; Earl J. Kilby, Vicechairman; James E. Yates, Regular Member; Marie K. Hite, 1st Alternate; Luther S. Jenkins, 2nd Alternate.
Jackson: James F. Massie, Chairman; W. G. East ham, Vicechairman; Floyd 'Hitt, Regular Member; Ivar Jacobs, 1st Alternate; W. L. Payne, 2nd Alternate.
The election was very close and in many cases one vote determined the position of the candidate.
The Community Committee could have an important role in the working of the County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Program starting November 1, 1960. The Chairman of each community will start their duties on October 24, 1960, when they serve as delegates to the County Convention. These five men will elect a Committee of five, to serve as a County Committee. The County Committee has full responsibility for all ASC Program at County level.
