Ladies Auxiliary
Organized 18 Years
Do you know that the Ladies Fire Auxiliary of Washington, Va.. was eighteen years old on January 18th. Their initial purposes were to lend aid socially, physically and . financially to the firemen. (I feel free to comment only on the latter).
According to the constitution, the dues were to be $1.20 a year. Everything else has gone up, but this is still the same bargain. Men were permitted to join but they were to have no voice in the “affairs relative to the auxiliary." This is still that same bargain! I • There were to be regular monthly meetings. This, too, is still true. Come and join our March 6th meeting at 7:30 p.m. in the bank building.
The first president was Mis. Mary Partlow and the vice president was Mrs. L. V. Merrill. ;
Other bits of historical intercut, gleaned from the archives of Fine Auxiliaria: always count 1 ^b. of turkey per person and 3 biscuits per person. This undoubtedly builds big, strong firemen.
