Broiler prices have probably reached about the seasonal low point, although supplies are still building up over last year.
Last week, prices tumbled a full cent, reaching > record 13-cent low for the time of year in Ga.
Prices are now about three cents under a year ago, but supplies are about 15 per cent above a year earlier. Virginia supplies are due for a substantial increase in the weeks ahead, according to figures on chicks started earlier.
The Virginia broiler price this week was 14 cents, with Georgia at 13, North Carolina at 13 to l3!/2 and Delmarva at 14Y2 cents.
WOOL
Early wool prices are about five cents below a year ago, and it looks as if they will stay below.
The nation has about the same number of stock sheep, although Virginia sheep numbers are down about six per cent. Wool consumption in 1960 was off and is expected to be even lower in 1961. (
Preparing a quality clip will help to make up for some of the loss due to any lower price level. Under the wool incentive program, which is the same this year, the higher price you get for your wool, the higher your incentive.
Prices for 3/8 inch blood wool in Boston last week were 55 to 58 cents, compared to 60 to 63 cents a year ago.
