Saturday night there were frost pockets but by Sunday the weather was -cool but nice. Monday there were black clouds and cold rain off and on all day. Memorial Day dawned bright and cool. Picnicking maybe but swimming, no.
Thomas Jefferson relates in one of his diaries about the 4th of July that ice formed in Luray and it continued so cold that no crops were harvested that summer in the Shenandoah Valley.
We’ll see if the weather repeats after this cold start.

The Amissville Athletics defeated Gainesville Sunday at-Amissville. This gives Amissville' a 2-1 lead in the Blue Ridge League. David Jame% was the big hitter for Amissville with 2 home runs, and getting the most runs batted in. Gainesville scored four runs in the first ir.ning to take the lead, but Amissville got two runs in the first and three in the second to take the lead for keeps. Floyd Riley pitched the first six innings for Amissville to get the victory; Richard Settle uitched the last: three innings.
Amissville will play Bealton at? Remington this Sunday, June 4.! Next Sunday they will return home to play Hume.
