there have been several cases in Rappahannock where this procedure has been very costly. In addition to buying a ram there have been cases where foot rot, one of the most dreaded sheep diseases, was thrown in. Anothr sheep owner discovered later he’d bought a first class case of scabies which spread through his entire flock; another ram proved to be impotent or sterile, etc., etc.
YOU MIGHT be able to make a swap with a neighbor BUT better this be done before the ram sales are over.
REPORTS are that several county FLOCKS will be FOR SALE after lambs are moved to market. These flocks appear in good condition and are being sold because of managerial problems, health and age of owners. I refer to Larry Manwaring’s flock, that of Harry Williams’ and Mrs. Clark Jones’.
Also Jim Yates reported last week he may have to sell his flock. (I was indeed sorry to learn from Jim his doctor had waved the Angina caution-flag.) Jim also has a nice lot of feeder pigs to sell.
Angus Association Members...... Time is growing nearer for the Ohio Cattle feeders (100) to .visit Rappahannock. This association has been asked to show a couple of their calf sale consigning herds; give the group lunch.
Culpeper cow-men have already planned in a big way to have the (Royal) Purple Carpet spread for these prospective customers on the preceeding afternoon and evening, (mock calf sale, barbecue and all the trimmings) at the Country Club. Let Jim and Rodes have
