Steers—regulations same as heifers except steers must be dehorned and must not show stagginess.
Slaughter cattle awards: A total of $600.00 will be prorated as prize money to all heifer and steer' pen placings for all pens entered. . All entries will receive prize money with relative small spread between top and bottom. Ribbons will be awarded to all entries and trophies will be awarded to the champion pen of three heifers and champion pen of three steers. A special award of $10.00 will be presented to the outstanding herdsman based on presentation of entries. For all classes, a $50:00 limit is set for any placing in the event the number of entries is small.
Special awards of $10.00 each for iamb, hogs and cattle will be presented to the outstanding record book submitted by exhibitors. All exhibitors will be required to submit their project record book up to date to show manager by 7 pun. on the day of weighing in. Records will be judged on accuracy, completeness, neatness, and the project program conducted, including efficiency and cost of production.
Entry—All entries must be made through the county agent or Vo-Ag teacher and mailed to the 4-H Livestock Specialists, Animal Husbandry Department, V.P.I., Blacksburg, Virginia. Entries are due as follows: Steers and heifers by November 15, 1961; Hogs and lambs by March 1, 1962.
