On the 30th of December at 5 -25 p.m. on Route 707 icy roads caused a minor collision. Robert Mason DeShazo, Jr. of Arlington, driving his 1960 Chevrolet station wagon and Edwin Newell Montague of Alexandria in a 1959 Mercury station wagon skidded into each other on a hill. Damage was estimated at $500 but there were no injuries.

Shirley Smoot of Washington, Va. was injured New Years Day at 2:45 a.m. when the 1962 Falcon she was driving went out of control on Route 628 north of town and struck a bank. The vehicle was owned by her father, Clayfeert Smoot and damages were figured at about $350.

Shirley had head injuries and cuts and bruises on her body. She was taken to Warren Memorial Hospital by Rappahannock Rescue Squad where she remained two days and was released.
