Several factors — Lent, more hogs coming to market, and the weather—add up to some spots of additional weakness in hog prices in the next few weeks.
We are in the peak of marketings from last fall’s pig crop right now. This, plus the weather, may bring week-to-week price fluctuations.
' Even so, with a penalty of $1 j per hundredweight for hogs under 180 pounds, there is no reason to sell light unless you have a feed problem. i In the long run, 1962 looks like a pretty good year for hog producers.
The economy is in better shape than in 1961, the hog supply will increase about in line with population, and the corn-hog ratio continues favorable.
Hog producers’ intentions to farrow this spring are up three per cent over last year with almost all the increase in the Corn Belt States.
