Questionnaires
About 750 Virginia veterans and widows of veterans have had their pensions suspended because they failed to return their annual income questionnaires. The checks of more than 1000 other veterans and widows have also been stopped because of the income cards they sent in were incomplete or incorrect.
The 750 persons of the first group face not only the loss of their monthly pensions but, for manv of them, the repayment of all pension money received during 1961. A new regulation this year provides that when a questionnaire is not returned the VA will declare an overpayment for the preceding year and will institute action to recover that entire year’s pension. Prompt action by those who have not returned tihieir questionnaire cards is very important if the pensioner expects to avoid paying back all of last year’s pension, and get back on the VA pension list if still eligible. Although the deadline was January 31, 1962, the VA will still accept late questionnaires and either release the pensions or take such other action as is necessary.
