THANKS FOR YOUR PATIENCE
The severe storm that struck this area on Monday, March 5th played havoc with our power lines and disrupted service in most of the areas served by this Cooperative. Many of our lines are off the highway and through wooded areas, making it difficult to patrol with the great amount of snow on the ground. We were fortunate in that very few poles were broken, and in no case did we have a broken pofle on the lines that were rebuilt last summer and fall. A large amount of wire was down, caused by trees falling across the line; also wire was bdoken by heavy ice accumulation. This heavy icing, along with heavy gusts of wind Tuesday night, caused much wide-spread damage.
Our thanks go out to Irby Construction Company; Randolph Electric Membership Cooperation ,Ashboro,North Carolina; Line Construction Company of Sanford, North Caroflina; and Shenandoah Electric Cooperative from Dayton, Virginia, for providing extra crews to clear this emergency. The men stayed on the job for long hours helping restore service. Our own dedicated people did yeoman work, working sixteen to twenty hours. Two crews worked throughout one night and into the next afternoon, often not taking time to eat
Our sincere thanks also to the girls in the office who did a wonderful job answering the telephones.
Special thanks go out to those members who helped patrol lines, clear right-of-ways, and in so many instances furnished refreshments to the service crews on the job.
Also, sincere thanks for the patience and understanding of the members during the period the service was out. It is fortunate that such destructive storms seldom strike. Even though our lines are constructed to withstand normal snow storms and wind, we must remember that there is One greater than man that can destroy overnight what man has spent days, yes, years to build, God, our Creator and Ruler of the universe. We have so much to be thankful for . . no loss of life and no injuries to those who worked long hours and with such dedication.
