Lodi Ladies Caught in
Early West Va. Snowfall
Mrs. Virginia Kuhn and Mrs. W. C. Hall started out Thursday morning in October’s' bright blue weather for their annual visit to Charleston, W.Va. Imagine their dismay when the fall foliage was suddenly screened by snow flurries in the Alleghenies that increased to storm proportions.
They had neither snow tires nor chains and were forced to creep along at five and ten miles an hour. There were many cars that were stalled completely in the snow which ranged from three and four inches there to 12 inches in other sections.
Their troubles were not over when they finally reached Charleston as there was a teacher’s convention and with the tourists being snowed in, all the hotels were filled. Finally a reservation was cancelled and they had a room. To top it all, the mercury plunged to 17 degrees to set a record for the lowest October temperature ever in Charleston.
Mrs. Hall stated that in all the years that they have visited Charleston in October this was the most interesting, exciting and hazardous and that next year she could do with a little less excitement.
