Faithful Public Service
i have just read in your valued paper of the impending retirement of Clack of the .Circuit Court of Rappahannock, Mr. James M. Settle, after 40 years of faithful service. In these days of emphasis on material things and the fastest way to acquire them, it is quite refreshing to read of the steadfastness and devotion of Mr. Settle. Little do people realize how important to their fortunes and well-being is, and was, the faithful performance of Mr. Settle in the position he held. Although I have never met him, I am grateful to him and to men like him.

With the retirement of the most able Mr. Settle, the people of Rappahannock County are singularly fortunate to have at hand an equally capable public servant to take his place. I refer, of course, to Deputy Clerk, Miss Ruth Stevens.
