- The duties of a county sheriff are numerous and varied. At the Sperryville Firemen’s carnival Thursday night I overheard a local gentleman when he walked up to our able Mr. Estes and tell him that he could not find his wife in the crowd and requested that the sheriff find her for him. He proceeded to do just that.
During the majorette performances at the carnival one young lady was performing with a blazing baton and dropped it in the grass,which was so dry it immediately ignited. Unruffled, the performer tramped out the blaze with her shoe while she continued to perform, just as though it was part of her routine.
