A group of Boy Scouts from Washington and Flint Hill took a trip to Philmont Ranch, Cimarron, New Mexico from July 28 through August 17. In the following story, to be run in instailments. Page Moffett, Troop Scribe, gives a running account of their trip. August 9, 1963 - Today we got up at about 6:30 in preparation for the tough^hike to Cypher's Mine. The biggest obstacle of the hike was Commanche Pass which is very high and is steep on both sides. Because of a late breakfast and inspection, we didn’t get off until about 10:00 a.rn. The trip to the top of the pass, though 2 1/2 miles, was fairly easy climbing and t<?ok us only about an hour. There at the top we rested and ate our lunch. After eating we started down the mountain, which has probably the steepest downhill in all Philmont. The trip downhill was at about a 45 degree angle and took us about an hour. At the bottom of the mountain we came to the remains of Lambert's Mine, an old mining camp. Here we branched off the main trail to a side trail to Cypher's Mine. The climbing was rough but we finally made it to the top. Here it started raining, and we were soaked before we reached the camp. At head
