to where the bus would pick us up. We covered the distance in good time and reached the pickup spot at about 8:40. We were picked up 5 minutes later and taken to headquarters. Here we were assigned to tents and went about getting ourselves straightened out. Some washed clothes, all took showers, and we did other various things. We got our laundry back and it really felt good to gel clean clothes on. Later on in the afternoon, it began to rain. It. rained hard for several hours. Finally, it quit. A report was that it had rained more today than in the past year altogether. This past week has been the wettest one this year at Philmont. After supper late in the evening, we all went to the trading post to get things to remind us of Philmont. Some boys bought belts, neckerchiefs, others slides, and still others shirts. After an hour of patch trading, everyone hit the sack. August 14, 1963 - Early this morning at about 3:45, we got up for the long ride to Stillwater, Oklahoma where we would spend the first night.
