Children's Calorie Needs
How many calories does a child need each day? Scientists in the school of home economics at Virginia Polytechnic Institute are attempting to find out. Afive-year study has been started to determine calorie needs of children for basal metabolism and for selected activities. Information from this study should add knowledge on the calorie needs of children, and on the differences between individuals in the need for calories used for the same act ivity. This work is also expected to show the extent to which ‘calorie1 fo*' ba£df1 'activities remain constant or vary in the same child during growth from preadolescence through adolescence.
