In connection with this year’s April Cancer Crusade, this i newspaper is cooperating with ■ the Rappahannock Unit of the ; American Cancer Society to i bring more life-saving cancer education into local homes. Last week we published the first questions, “What signs or symptoms may mean cancer?" The ACS leaflet gives this answer: “These are Cancer’s 7 Danger Signals: 1. Unusual bleeding or discharge
2. A lump or thickening in the brest or elsewhere 3. A sore that does not heal 4. Change in bowel or bladder habits 5. Hoarseness or cough 6. Indigestion or difficulty in swallowing 7. Change in wart or mole Cancer is increasing most rapidly?" The ACS leaflet gives this answer; “Lung cancer, in spite of the fact that' itsfs .largely a pr*»»wable disease. B«*t»ro tectidtt is not to start srnttkifig cigarettes, but giving them up at any time decreases the risk. Studies have shown that young people are more inclined to start cigarette smoking if their parents smoke cigarettes."
