Care in freezing, care In storage, care in transporation, care in retail stores., all are vital for delivering high quality to us. Nor can buyers escape responsibility. Few people have facilities that will give low enough temperatures to keep quality at high levels for long periods. Rapid turnover is just as important for you to practice as for marketers. If everyone...marketers and consumers...will guard against the enemies of frozen foods, time and temperature, frozen food eating will be better and more enjoyable.

Homemaking Hints

Do you want to make your gladioli bloom 10 days earlier than usual? Your glads will bloom earlier if stored in a warm place just before planting. In experiments with two varieties, corms stored at 80 degrees for 15 days bloomed 10 days earlier than untreated corms. Flower yields were also higher. Here's hdw you can add zest to a fresh fruit salad or a seafood platter; Blend 1/4 cup orange juice concentrate into 1 cup mayonnaise. Use as a topping. This is just one of the many menu tricks you can perform with frozen concentrated orange juice. Shopping for meat is no simple job. You have to remember that some meats have more bone, gristle and fat than others. Some yield less cooked meat. And some have less protein value. Take round steak and pork roast as an example. At the meat counter, one is marked $1.11 a pound; the other 67C. Which is the better buy? According to food ecnomists of the U. S. Department of Agriculture, you can have your choice. You’ll get about the same amount of cooked lean meat and protein for each dollar spent. That’s because the round steak, which sells for $1.11, has the bone cut out; it ha6 little excess fat. The pork roast, on the other hand, has the bone in and considerable fat. So don’t let the price of 3 pound of meat mislead you. Check the amount of bone, gristle and fat you’re buying., and give a thought to the protein value of the piece you’re selecting.
