Fire Destroys House
Near Amissville
A frame house on Route 640 (Tobacco Road) near Amissville was destroyed by fire Saturday afternoon. The dwelling was occupied by Clarence Rector,'colored, and his fam>ly- >ly) Amissville Fire Company responded to the alarm with three trucks, but the structure was practically consumed by flames by the time they arrived. The Rectors had no telephone and had to go some distance to turn in the alarm. However, the firemen did pre vent two automobiles which were parked beside the house from exploding or burning. The Rectors saved a few pieces of furniture from a front room and only the clothing which they wore. The family was taken in by neighbors. A dog which was cowering under the back porch of the Rector home died in the fire. Firemen attempted to coax the animal out with no success and then turned the hose on it to make it come out, but it refused, and so was killed in the fire.

Exhibit Continues
The Exhibit of Religious Art at the Rappahannock Library was visited last week by the art class of Rappahannock County High School under the direction of Mrs. Christine Johnson who expressed admiration for the excellence of the work of the young people. This collection of art by students of high schools in the Washington area consists of the best selections submitted in the past three years. It may still be seen for a limited time at the regular Library hours or by special appointment for groups.
