Ever hear of corn-cob jelly? My wife came upon the recipe in a daily paper and promptly read it to me. Seems a Mrs. Level of Culpeper had made the report. Upon telling a friend he quietly acknowledged the concoction asking if I hadn’t heard of Corn Cob Syrup. Said his mother used to make it for hot cakes! Seems as how the brown sugar sy rup had an added flavor from water in which cobs had been boiled!
************ And finally there is the report of a friend's aunt who was attending a party with her husband shortly after his recuperation from a sick spell. A man approached the couple, spoke and asked the husband how he had been. “A bit sick”, he replied. The man expressed his regrets and asked what the trouble was. “I had flu", replied the husband.
Just then the semi-conscious wife with a loving touch (?) arched her eyebrows and told her spouse “had flown, dear; you should say, had flown1”
