Winners Named
Lighting effects and decora1 tions in the Town of Washington during the holiday season ■ were spectacular, reflecting great effort and originality. , The first prize winner was I Mrs. Christine Johnston on r Gay Street with a lovely Della Robbia spray on her door ' framed on each side with anti, que coach lights decorated i with greens. A close second , was the entrance to the resir deuce of Mrs, Jessie Miller s Turner on wtv Salem Avenue - , which features a Della Robbia t wreath with three handsome ■ 3-foot candles on. each side : of the door, and a lighted s candle in each window of the house. Third prize went again this year to Mr. and Mrs. Edward Bailey, Jr. on Piedmont hAvenue who had a lighted Christmas tree featuring wrapped packages under it. Honorable mention was awarded to Mr. and Mrs. Guy Burke on Gay Street for a traditional effect using a rope of greens around the door and a wreath with a big red bow is the focal point in the center. Mrs. Johnston and Mrs. Turner have been winners year after year and show great talent and ingenuity in the design of their decorations. County wide interest was shown by the many people who made the rounds to see the decorations. Pleasant weather contributed to the comfort and ease of outdoor activity and made the gathering of greens and their arrangement easier except for the one day that the wind was so strong that it disarrayed those that were not well secured.
